Happy Holidays from Your Fave GL Creators!

2019 was one awesome year for the Yuri fandom. What better way to add in more love into the yuletide season but by seeing our favorite GL series celebrating the holidays, getting ready for the new year.

This year we have spotted  a few of our GL content creators posting Christmas art related to their works and here they are.

What Does The Fox Say creator Team Gaji posted a Christmas art of both Sungji and Sumin together. Sumin is wearing a Santa outfit as she was lifted by Sungji wearing a Reindeer costume.

Also, the webtoon (which is published in Korean on Kakaopage) has recently ended. You can read the series officially in English on Tappytoon in both SFW and NSFW versions.

Thai GL manga and webtoon artist Ratana Satis posted a Christmas art in her official Facebook page. Featuring the main characters from hit GL works PulseLily Love, and Lily Love 2 – Frosty Jewel

Mel, Lynn, and ‘Pulse’ – Intense and Sweet from Beginning to End

As this is posted, the last chapter of Ratana Satis’ GL webcomic series Pulse released its final episode last Friday. I was able to review some of its chapters way back but due to time and Lezhin’s new policy on copyright, I stopped doing them. However, I just need to post this.

Pulse was an intense story. I mean very intense. It follows of how two different people slowly grow together while dealing with a lot trials that they face along the way. For Mel, it was her past. For Lynn, it was her struggle to live due to her heart problem.
As the story went forward into the Sue arc, this is where it went into a huge see-saw. This arc was an ultimate love-hate for me mostly due to Mel’s ex-girlfriend Sue. There were chapters that didn’t really play much importance into the story but thankfully it went a little better as the chapters progress. The impact on the last few chapters were also in the same level as how I felt in the first few chapters. I am just happy that the last episode was to buy for and to read for!

Behind all the confusing stuff, unanswered questions, and all the hullabaloo, I am thankful enough to know that both Mel and Lynn were happy together in the end. The last part got me teary-eyed and this was the ending that I want. While some say that the pacing of the series is rushed, I didn’t really feel that it was at all! A GL story isn’t just mostly about sex and continuous drama. What mattered was how these characters grow together and will go through heaven and hell just to be together.

Mel and Lynn taught us that even broken people can fall in love and be loved in return. This is not just any ordinary webcomic…it’s a masterpiece that should be remembered for a long time. Pulse is part of my GL webcomic recommendations list and it will still remain one of my favorites regardless that it’s done. I am truly going to miss Mel and Lynn so much.

Ratana Satis deserves a standing ovation for this work. She nailed it. She not only touched the hearts of many Yuri/GL fans like myself, she also created a story that will be forever be etched in the minds of many. I look forward to her upcoming works soon.

Another beautiful GL story is done. Well-deserved. Well-Remembered. Forever.

Top 5 Lezhin Comics GL Series Worth Spending Your Coins On

As I am writing this article, my Facebook page has reached more than a thousand likes. I haven’t really thought of anything to celebrate this achievement so perhaps this feature might do the trick.

Lezhin What?

Lezhin Comics is a premiere webcomics service providing readers a wide array of series to read– from Boy’s Love, Girl’s Love, Mature, and more. Since last year, I was so glued to their GL webcomics, that I almost shifted my fandom devotion to these particular series.

After reading a couple of series found in their website, I was so intrigued and began to loyally follow their releases not only in English but also their Korean titles. The reason why I do the latter is because eventually, these series will be given official English translations later on.

Of course, not everything you get is for free. For you to enjoy and be updated with the latest series of Lezhin, you need to purchase Lezhin Coins which can be bought using real cash. If you’re on a tight budget, Lezhin Comics usually holds coin sales that would really give you good deals on coin purchase.

The Glory of Lezhin GL

I would admit this that Lezhin Comics has provided some very good GL webcomics that it’s entirely impossible for you to be left behind. Although I follow almost all of the English and Korean releases, I will be listing down my top 5 Lezhin Comics GL series worth spending your coins on. I am going to make this spoiler-free so that I wouldn’t ruin the fun. 😉

5. The Love Doctor by Chamsae and Bansook

The Love Doctor centers on Jung Erae, an ordinary girl who has problems in dealing with men or even dealing with relationships as a whole. She seeks help to a “Love Doctor” named Cha Yoon. As days go by, Erae slowly realizes that she is starting to develop feelings for her.

The Lily Cat says: I followed Love Doctor because of how nice the art is and Erae is cute. The story gets pretty good but tends to slow down its pace midway. Regardless, it’s still one good read if you are looking for a GL series that is not really much about drama most of the time.

4. What Does The Fox Say by Team Gaji

What Does The Fox Say is a story of the intense love triangle of Sung Sumin, Ju Sungji, and Baek Seju. Sung Sumin is a Team Leader of Hello Studio, a company run by Baek Seju, her ex-girlfriend. Everything seemed to turn around for Sumin when the new recruit Ju Sungji came into the picture.

The Lily Cat says: Oh wow, how I start this? I cannot hide that this is my first webcomic I’ve read in Lezhin and pretty much the longest running GL series in the site. It has a huge international fanbase (which I can fully attest to this) and has published two volumes of their webcomic so far.

3. Pulse by Ratana Satis

The story of Pulse is centered on a surgeon named Mel who only sees sex as pleasure and love as a game. Everything seemed to have changed when she met a girl named Lynn who is fighting for her own life.

The Lily Cat says: When Pulse was released in Lezhin, I loved this more than WDTFS. The latter at that time wasn’t really going anywhere (not to mention so much sex), this webcomic will really take you away and the character development was just spot on. I have read Ratana’s works before and I know that this is definitely a series that is worth a read.

2. Moonlight Garden by Kang Unnie and MissPM

Moonlight Garden is set in a world where Flower Maidens in Moonlight Garden dominate and known to give sexual pleasures to those who desire them. In this series, a maiden named Dohwa is not yet “fully bloomed”. She crosses paths with Lady Hyewon, after she was found out stealing potions in order to get away from her sealed fate.

The Lily Cat says: I first encountered Moonlight Garden in its Korean release. The art and concept of this webcomic series instantly got me to follow it regardless if I don’t understand Korean much. The art has this unique traditional aesthetic which I really love and the characters are quite beautifully drawn and mysterious. I kept following the series and I was so happy that it finally had an official English translation and topped the GL series rankings in the Lezhin website.

Honorable Mentions

Now before I reveal my Number 1 Lezhin GL series, here are some honorable mentions (in no particular order)~

On a Leash by Aji

Serenade by Keum Kyesoo

Vengeance by Aji

Maison de Maid by Monnyang & Tarang

Lily Love by Ratana Satis

and my Top 1 best Lezhin GL Comic Series is….

1. The Third Party by Enjelicious

The Third Party is a story of two different women with difficult situations. Moon Hae Jin is a Producer-Director of GBS Studios who has done all she can to get on top. While a new girl in the office Gu Jeong Hui also holds a secret that only her can deal with it. When the two girls met, they had not only had to deal with their developing feelings for each other but also their little secrets.

The Lily Cat says: Anybody who has been online friends with me for long know that I’m so hooked and obsessed with this webcomic! The art is nice, the characters are just hard to ignore (well except Sang Hun pfft), and it would just leave you at the end of your seats. You maybe killed by the numerous cliffhangers of every chapter, but you will definitely wait again for next Monday to see what’s going to happen next. PD Moon is bae, fam.

What’s also nice about it is that this webcomic is made by a Filipino and it was the first winner of Lezhin’s 1st US Comic Contest. 20/10 will highly recommend this.

So these are my Top 5. Have a similar list or you want to share your fave Lezhin yuri as well? Leave it in the comments. With a lot of these series coming along, I’m pretty sure I will still hooked into the Lezhin GL webcomics for a very long time!

This Week in Yuri – January 23-29

Happy Chinese New Year!

This week has been pretty much good for the Yuri fandom. As a way to keep track on which series is getting most hype and all during the past week, I have created this simple segment called This Week in Yuri. Each post might contain some spoilers since I’ll be talking about each of the episodes and everything in between. I am basing this segment on the GL rankings from Lezhin Comics since majority of the GL series that people are following are from this popular premium webcomic service.

As of January 29 (4:00pm PH Standard Time), The Top 5 are:
1. What Does The Fox Say
2. Pulse
3. The Love Doctor
4. Everyday Lily
5. The Third Party

Great Ways To End the Month

I went back to my previous reviews on What Does The Fox Say and Pulse and I have to say the previous chapters were emotional roller-coasters. This week, I’m quite satisfied with the chapters due to right level of intensity that readers really want.

What Does The Fox Say this week was so intense (in a good way). Base on the current English chapter released, it seems that Team Blonde is sailing once again. In the Korean release, we finally got Seju again and slayed the chapter with her new look, fierce attitude, and her new car.

Pulse is going well in letting the readers be introduced with the new girl in the story, Sue. Sue for me is quite an interesting character since she holds some parts that would put together how Mel was in her past. With that said, I can’t wait how the next chapters will unfold and how Mel and Lynn will be able to conquer these obstacles together.

The Love Doctor is also one of the GL series that I didn’t have time to review on. With recent chapters getting good, I think I should also dedicate a bit of my time to write about this series as well. Erae and Cha Yoon are now canon and hope it goes well from here. But basing on the recent chapters released (Korean version), another drama roller coaster is unfolding.

I haven’t really talked about Everyday Lily here but this series is like a cooldown from all the intense ones that are out on Lezhin. The randomness is just right and that cliff-hanging recent chapter makes me want to know what’s next. If you are done with all your yuri and GL reading backlogs for the week, I highly recommend that you add this up to your reading list.

Okay now this would be the first time that I will be talking about The Third Party created by Filipino artist Enjelicious. First off, I’m so happy that someone from my homeland is having a weekly webcomic circulation on a popular webcomic service.

Aside from this, I’m quite impressed on how the story is going (although halfway of its first debut release chapters were draggy a bit) and I hope it continues to be interesting. During the past few days in this week, it was ranked at Number 1 but was replaced when recent chapters of Love Doctor, Pulse, and WDTFS were released. A great webcomic and I highly recommend it.

So that is my This Week in Yuri! Who knows what’s going to happen in the next one! 😀

You Can Now Read ‘Lily Love’ on Lezhin!

‘Lily Love’ Page in the Lezhin Comics Website

If you are fans of Ratana Satisongoing GL webomic hit Pulse, then I’m pretty sure you’ve read one of her other works too. Say no more guys: You can now read her popular GL series Lily Love as well in the Lezhin Comics website!

Though this has been fan-translated in different languages already, I highly encourage that you officially purchase the chapters with Lezhin Coins. The translations are more accurate this time and we’ll never know– there might be more surprises for those who purchase them. This is also a way to support the publisher and the artist herself.
I’ve been following Ratana Satis and her works for quite some time now and she never fails to surprise her followers. I am still hanging on to my theories in Pulse as much as I wanted to share it to her. As always (and as a personal commitment as a fan), I will share them once the series is in its near climax and end.
So if you love Pulse, you’ll definitely love Lily Love too. I won’t put in any spoilers here for the benefit of those who haven’t read it yet. Now you don’t need to go anywhere else to get your needed GL fix.
I will end this post with a line from the popular musical Hamilton (because this how I sum up how I feel about this annoucement) : “Look around, look around to how lucky we are to alive right now!*”

Pulse Chapter 27 (Long OVERDUE Review Edition + Some Updates) – The Intensity is Real

After having issues with my Internet service provider, I’m back with another Pulse chapter review. I would like to apologize if this has been long overdue. Better later than never I suppose. Warning: Spoilers Ahead.

In Pulse Chapter 26, Mel went full detective mode in tracking down Grace’s fiance– the person responsible for her current painful state. Mel was able to get one of his girls from finding out his location and where his car can be found. She instantly called Crystal about it and told her she’ll track down Tom at all cost. As much as her detective friend wanted to assure Mel that she can take it from here, the surgeon continues to remain stubborn and proceeded to take down the suspect herself.

Mel and Tom met face to face and this was the time when Mel’s hunches were true from the beginning. The chapter ends on a cliffhanging note when Tom pulls out a taser in front of her.
Thoughts
As I’ve mentioned way back in my previous reviews, Pulse shows no indication of slowing down and continues to tickle the curiosity of its fans anticipating for the next chapter release. Due to its intensity, I’d probably give this a 9 out of 10. Like many of the followers of this webcomic, I am worried for Mel (as well for Lynn) and hoping that things would turn around for the better.
I have mentioned in the Pulse Facebook group posts and comments that I have theories on how the entire story will turn out. But as promised, I decided not to share these theories and will reveal them once Pulse is near its series end.
Back to December

No Taylor Swift song reference title intended. Ratana Satis and her team recently announced that Chapter 28 will be released this December 2 giving a couple of weeks of waiting for Pulse fans. Completely understandable since awesome artists do deserve a break. If you have the time (and the money), the first volume of Pulse is now up for pre-order

Pulse Chapter 26 (Review) – Detective Mel and ‘Waifu’ Lynn

This was a fun chapter to read and just had the right balance for a great chapter. Warning: Minor spoilers ahead!
“Wait for me.”

In today’s chapter of Pulse, we are welcomed with a sweet phone conversation between Mel and Lynn. The glow that these girls had was just too fluffy and cheesy to ignore. Mel expresses how she missed her and apologizes that they can’t eat dinner together for the reason that Grace is still in a coma and she has to find out more answers related to her accident and possible case of being strangled before her accident.

Mel successfully tracked one of the connections of the potential suspect and the chapter ends with her successfully getting one of the pieces of the puzzle that she needs.

Thoughts

I understand the Mel is doing this just to get the hands of Grace’s fiance and put him behind bars. It worries me however on what would potentially happen if Lynn found out about what the Doc is about to possibly do with the woman to get answers.
All in all, still a great chapter to read. In fact, this chapter has better impact compared to Chapter 25. Quite understandable since it’s a shifting chapter to what unfolds in upcoming chapters. Onward to Chapter 27!
Note: I am not sure if I will be able to review the next Chapter 27 since I will be out the next weekend to attend a big cosplay convention in Manila. In case I couldn’t, I’ll probably make up for it reviewing two chapters.

Pulse Chapter 25 (Review) – Serious and Deep

While some people indulge their late Friday nights outside and just party until dawn, I remain in the comforts of my bedroom waiting for the 25th episode of Ratana Satis’ yuri webcomic Pulse.

In the previous chapter, we witness the intense scene of Mel and Lynn which end up hanging due to an emergency phone call. Fast forward, Grace is in a coma and it’s not for certain yet if she will wake up.
Crystal then comes in hoping that Grace is awake to get clues related to her case. Mel then told her friend to put this case into priority and hopefully track down the person who did this to Grace.

Thoughts on Chapter 25

It’s expected that some would say that this is a filler chapter and you just want that Lynn and Mel scene to continue without disruptions. But you know– we all need to take a break from the intensity of the last chapter. So I have to say that this webcomic is moving in a good pace. Hope it stays that way.
Though it doesn’t have that much impact (yet), this chapter reminded me of a certain crime/detective series that I was so hooked on way back. As always, I look forward to the next Friday Pulse chapter release party. So I have to say that I don’t hate this chapter and I don’t love it either.
Why am I reminded of Rizzoli and Isles after reading this chapter all of a sudden?

Pulse (Episode 24) – The Best Chapter So Far!

“I’m always with you”

Hands down. I would consider this as one of the best chapters in Pulse so far!

Before we wrap up this Friday night, Lezhin Comics have officially released the 25th chapter/episode of Ratana Satis’ yuri webcomic Pulse. You can read the latest chapter here.

The chapter started on a good pace, then it went intense (which is what the fans have been waiting for!), then closed the chapter with an acceptable cliffhanger that makes you wish it was Friday already to know what’s next.

I have to say that this chapter was worth the wait and a perfect way to end your Friday on a high note. Yuri fans, it’s time to give time for your Friday nights for this is one yuri webcomic you shouldn’t be missing a chapter in!
