Visual Novel Review: Lucy ~The Eternity She Wish For~

Warning: Minor Spoilers ahead

This is the first time in a long time that I have written any game reviews and what a great way to start it is to discuss about this visual novel titled Lucy ~The Eternity She Wish For~. Developed by M-Vizlab, the game was released on Steam in 2016. I was able to play the game today and I have to say this was really something.

What You Need to Know

To start off, you play the role of an ordinary high school boy set in a period where humans and robots co-exist together.. sort. One day, you stumble upon a beautiful android in a dumpster and decided to take it home. You found out that the android’s name is Lucy (full name: Lucy Valentine). As days pass, you began to realize that Lucy is not just an ordinary robot. She imitates the emotions and responses of human making her very real.

Gameplay

I have to be very honest with you that the last visual novel that I’ve ever played and finished ever were the Sonohanabira series of yuri visual novel games and that was it– to add to that, I played like years ago. This game had a lot of firsts for me. It was good from the start though there were slight slowdowns in  between the story. As you almost reach the end, I had that sort of Adrenaline rush especially during the climax part. I thought visual novels don’t really give you much of an impact since all you have to is like spam your left mouse or enter botton. This game kind of changed my views on visual novels and I never knew it would be this great.

The characters were great, the backgrounds, music, and sound effects were in sync depending on the scenario. What made this unique for me is that Lucy was speaking in Korean while I was going through it. I found out later that you have the option to change the voice to Japanese but I prefer it as is. I think it was more fitting.

In Case of Feels, Prepare Your Hankies

As I mentioned, the climax and near ending of this game were so intense. Just when I thought that that was it, the game lead me to a “story bridge” which take you to the real ending. It was in this part that I shed tears. Couldn’t help it– the conversations and narrations of the characters were just so good that you end up getting your heart tugged by their words and emotions.

Final Verdict

As much as I want to discuss more about this game, I don’t want to send in more spoilers. All I can say that this is one visual novel that should be on every otaku’s Steam library. I am not really fond of going through visual novels much but Lucy ~The Eternity She Wish For~ changed all that. If you are looking for a good VN with a good story (and an amount of feels), this game is for you.

As I writing this review, I haven’t fully unlocked the achievements and some extras. Regardless, this game deserves my high respects and I hope people who will get to read this review would give it a try.

Story: 9/10
Characters: 8/10
Backgrounds/Scenarios/Sounds/Music- 9/10

Overall: 10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Touken Ranbu Event Report – Underground Treasure Chest 6

Touken Ranbu released another new toudan and he’s a reward character in the ongoing event Underground Treasure Chest 6.

Completing the event is simple: you make your way through the floors (100 in total) of Osaka Castle defeating monsters, collecting koban, obtaining Houchou Toushirou (you will get him after completing floor 50), as well as obtaining the materials needed for Kiwame.

The event will be from October 18, 2016 to November 8 2016 14:00 Japan Standard Time.
The Perfect Team

There is no level limit or requirement for this event so you can have any toudan in our team. This is also the perfect opportunity to level up your low level swords. In my case, I was able to level up Mikazuki Munechika from level 1 to 30+ upon reaching the 50th floor. Floors 51 onward will have stronger opponents.
If you wish to rush this map, having Ootachis with you or Iwatooshi can help you. Having gold troops (with musketeers, archers, and catapults) is a plus. For those who want to get a higher chance in walking to the resource nodes, be sure to have Tantous on your team. I had Gokotai and Hakata Toushirou on my team so I had a good haul of koban and resources as I went on.
A Test of Patience
Check out my video going through Floor 50 and obtaining the new sword (no retreat since Floor 2)

If you have been a long time Touken Ranbu player, then you would really agree that this event is a test of patience. It will take you like half the day to get to floor 50 (I had lunch and coffee breaks in between) without retreats to the citadel. It gets a bit boring when you’re around floor 20s to 30s because everything starts to become too monotonous and repetitive especially when you have high leveled swords with you.
A Worthy ‘Underground Treasure Chest’ Event

Unlike the previous ‘Underground Treasure Chest’ events where they only give you a banner and backgrounds for completion, this event is a very generous one giving you lots of koban, Kiwame items, gold troops, as well as help tokens. This is kind of an event that every saniwa shouldn’t miss if you want to get the good stuff.
Useful tip: Don’t waste your koban. Could be useful in the next events.
Final Verdict

With the new toudan being so cute and the event giving players a lot of goodies, Touken Ranbu’s Underground Treasure Chest 6 event is worth it for those who have the great patience enough to complete it.
Stay tuned for my Floor 51-100 game report!

HonoCar – A Love Live Mini Game

Love Live is serious business even until this day. Due to the immense hype, fans create their own content based from the series that range from doujins, fanfictions, song covers, and even fan-made video games.

HOROSHIT MOTHER HONKERS!

Thanks to one of my friends, he shared a link of what appears to be a Love Live fan-made mini game which features one of the main protagonists Honoka… and cars.

Playing “HonoCar” is easy. You just need to prevent Honoka from hitting the blue cars using the left and right buttons on your keyboard. If you love Honkers a lot, then this game is for you (the art is cute and I really liked the rolling Kotobird when you entered the link for the first time).

This game is quite entertaining especially if you’re waiting for your downloads to be done or you’re just completely bored during the day. You can play the game here and honk your way to reach a high score!

Update: I also forgot to add that if you click on Chibi Eli, you’ll be able to play her aside from Honkers.

A big thanks to Nikko A. for this epic sauce! XD

Kantai Collection Report – Sortie Maps, Sortie Maps, Sortie All the Way!

S A V A G E Teitoku!

Since I’m on a two-week Christmas vacation, I decided to take this time to catch up on some anime, video games, and everything in between.
I’m doing what I can to finish the chain quests for the Prototype Flight Deck before the Winter Season Event rolls in. While people spend their time going out of town and enjoy their long awaited vacation, I remain in the four corners of my bedroom finishing up some sortie maps in Kantai Collection.

I almost lost my Taihou here. Guys, retreat if you feel that the next action might be painful.

Since the 2015 Summer Event, I was stuck in sortie Map 4-3. But thanks to RNGesus, I was able to reach boss node and completed the map to head on to 4-4.
For those who haven’t experienced the hell Kancolle seasonal event maps, Sortie Map 4-4 would probably be the first map you’ll encounter where it requires you to kill the boss at least 4 times. The ‘final dance’ have sub abyssals so having destroyers on your fleet is a must. In my case, I used Yuudachi Kai-Ni and Shigure Kai-Ni.

I think the most important equips here would be the ASWs for the destroyers, AP shells and Type 3 shells for Haruna Kai-Ni and Kako Kai-Ni, some green and blue planes for Shoukaku and Taihou, and I added a Type 13 Air Radar just in case. Due to the desperation of finishing, I wasn’t able to count how many buckets I’ve used for the two sortie maps.
So that’s just about everything. To those who still haven’t finished these maps, just keep leveling up your ship girls and ‘may RNGesus be ever in your favor’.

Welcome to Swords Boys Hell- Touken Ranbu

I feel that this greeting is quite appropriate for this post: “Welcome to Sword Boys Hell!

Touken Ranbu is a popular browser game created by DMM Games and Nitroplus where users assume the role of saniwa who is sent to the past to obtain and craft “sword boys” to fight evil monsters. It’s considered by many as the gender-counterpart of Kantai Collection where the characters are anthropomorphized World War II warships in the form of girls.

Ever since its release in early 2015, Touken Ranbu has been one of DMM’s popular games where majority of the players are women. Various Tourabu merchandise have been produced this year as well as a wide fanbase with a great number of doujins regularly released in conventions. The characters in the game can also be found in the popular Bushiroad card game, Cardfight!! Vanguard and a musical based on the online browser game is also produced and ran its first theater previews last October 2015.

His Name is Mikazuki Munechika. He is an old man. A sexy old man…and he can never be yours (?)

First Impressions

I got into the game around March-April and it was also the time where the game was still in its grand hype and users always anticipate for the new servers to be opened. In my case, it took me around an hour to get into the game because of the massive volume of players who wanted to go into “sword boys hell”. But if you want to play the game now, there’s no need to pressure yourself because the developers are regularly expanding their old servers for new players.

I have to be honest here: the game just clicked– probably due to how handsome and adorable the characters are. The menu and gameplay are quite easy to navigate. Though it’s all in Japanese text, there are online guides to help you out so you don’t really have a problem going through the game and you’ll get used to it eventually.

Downsides

The game can only be played in Japan so you need a Japanese IP address to play it. Due to this restriction, I won’t put instructions on how to get into the game (but there are step-by-step guides available in other sources so I suggest you go through them instead). The other downside of this game is that it’s too easy to complete the missions and requirements. Even the monthly events are quite easy to accomplish compared to Kantai Collection where it’s takes you almost a trip to heaven and hell to finish the event maps.

Now because of the great popularity of the game characters, it’s expected that a lot of cosplayers portray these characters with great accuracy. Sadly, there are some who took advantage of this hype and just cosplay the toudans without even knowing the said game characters.

Conclusion

Though the game updates and events are getting too easy and monotonous for me, Touken Ranbu is still a great browser game to play. I just love the feeling of leveling up my sword boys and I hope the developers would provide better updates for old and new players to anticipate in. Good luck in getting Jiji though.

Nakigitsune is my favorite sword in the game. It breaks my heart that people mistaken him for Kaneki Ken from Tokyo Ghoul.
